Automatic Detection of Active Regions on Solar Images

چکیده
In this paper techniques are described for the automated detection of solar Active Regions (ARs). AR detection is achieved using intensity thresholds and a region growing procedure. These procedures have been tested on full-disk solar images from the Meudon observatory for the months of April and July 2002 and compared with their manually generated synoptic maps. Comparisons were also made with AR data published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration observatory (NOAA) and very good correspondence was found.

Salient regions detection in satellite images using the combination of MSER local features detector and saliency models
Nowadays, due to quality development of satellite images, automatic target detection on these images has been attracted many researchers' attention. Remote-sensing images follow various geospatial targets; these targets are generally man-made and have a distinctive structure from their surrounding areas. Different methods have been developed for automatic target detection. In most of these met...
متن کاملEvaluating the Performance of Automatic Sunspot Detection Algorithms using Full-Disk Solar Images
Sunspots are Solar features located in active regions of the Sun, whose number is an indicator of the Sun’s magnetic activity. The Objective of this work is to study two automatic Sunspot detection algorithms such as Watershed transformation and K-means Clustering. In this paper, Sunspot is obtained by above stated methods from the full-disk solar images. This work presents a performance compar...
متن کاملAutomatic Identification of Active Regions (Plages) in the Full-Disk Solar Images Using Local Thresholding and Region Growing Techniques
The paper presents techniques developed for the automated detection of Active Regions comprising bright areas on a darker background using Hα and Ca KII 3 solar images from the Meudon observatory. Statistical information for each quarter of the solar full-disk is calculated and used to determine the intensity threshold values which are used for initial segmentation of the active regions within ...
متن کاملAutomatic Sunspots Detection on Full-Disk Solar Images using Mathematical Morphology
Sunspots are solar features located in active regions of the Sun, whose number is an indicator of the Sun’s magnetic activity. Therefore accurate detection and classification of sunspots are fundamental for the elaboration of solar activity indices such as the Wolf number. However, irregularities in the shape of the sunspots and their variable intensity and contrast with the surroundings, make ...

This paper describes a searchable Solar Feature Catalogue (SFC) created using automated pattern recognition techniques from digitized solar images. The techniques were developed for detection of sunspots, active regions, filaments and line-of-sight magnetic neutral lines using Ca II K1, Ca II K3 and Ha solar images from the Meudon Observatory and white light images and magnetograms from SOHO/MD...
